A Red Kite

Red Kites are magnificent birds of prey, as are all birds of prey.

It’s not unusual to see Red Kites whilst out walking on the Ridgeway. On this particular walk the Ridgeway was shrouded in thick mist, with just a light breeze and hovering a few meters above the ground to my right was a Red Kite.

It is just fascinating to stand there watching it hover in the breeze staring down looking for its prey and then with the slightest of movement and a flap of a wing it would suddenly change position.

Every now and then the mist would shroud the bird of prey, making it almost magically disappear from sight and when the mist cleared it would be somewhere else completely different.

Being able to just watch a bird of prey like the Red Kite in action is just fascinating and a privilege.
